You can mod in Your Minecraft Skins to Smash Ultimate

Smash modder jam1garner has built a way to bring your custom Minecraft skins into battles against Mario, Kirby and the rest of the cast

Minecraft‘s Steve was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just two days ago, and already players are doing some crazy things with the character. While zero-to-death kills on Donkey Kong are impressive, something nobody expected was the ability to change your character’s skin to something available outside of the game. Jam1garner, a Smash modder has figured out a way to let players access the skins they have on Minecraft Java Edition in Smash Ultimate, and swap to them through a custom menu.

In a video posted to Twitter yesterday, jam1garner showed two players fighting it out as Steve, but with a different coat of paint. Both players had custom skins, although their character portraits on the bottom of the screen next to their damage percent and stocks were still the same. It’s an impressive feat nonetheless that will let players of Minecraft have a little extra customizability in Smash Ultimate.

If you’re interested in downloading this mod for yourself, jam1garner has made its files available along with a tutorial on how to mod the game. If you’re interested in the Smash Ultimate modding scene, I highly recommend following jam1garner on Twitter as well, where he talks about modding other Switch titles, like Rivals of Aether.
