Dirt 5 confirm PS4 saves won’t be transferable to PS5

Codemasters has confirmed that Dirt 5 saves won’t be transferable from the PS4 version of the game to the PS5 one.

Custom racing arenas created using the game’s new Playgrounds mode will be available to players who move from current to next-gen PlayStation consoles, but all other progress will be lost in the transition.

In contrast, Xbox players will be able to carry over all progress from the current-gen version to the Series X/S version, Codemasters has said.

Dirt 5 marks the latest of several PS5 titles to confirm they won’t support cross-platform saves with their PS4 versions.

Insomniac Games confirmed this week that Spider-Man Miles Morales saves will be transferable from PS4 to PS5. However, cross-generational saves won’t be supported between the PS4 version of the original Spider-Man and its PS5 remaster.

And on Monday, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon saves won’t be transferable between PS4 and PS5.

Dirt 5 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon support Microsoft’s Smart Delivery technology, which means players “only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on”, with all progress carrying over between current and next-gen versions.

Sony hasn’t announced a unified free cross-generation upgrade programme for PlayStation 5 like Smart Delivery. Instead, it seems to be leaving such upgrade schemes to the discretion of third-party publishers.

Dirt 5 will be released in November for consoles and PC, while a Google Stadia version will arrive in early 2021. The game will offer a free next-gen upgrade plan on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
