Expandable Storage For New Xbox Consoles Will Cost $219.99

Expandable storage for the next line of Xbox consoles will provide players with an extra terabyte of space and SSD-tier speed at a pretty high cost

One of the biggest issues both Sony and Microsoft are facing in the coming console generation is storage. Games are getting bigger, eating away at the 1TB standard storage size for most consoles. That’s why expandable storage is such a big issue – players with large libraries of games will likely have to either manage their storage constantly or purchase more. For PS5 owners, options are wide-ranging, since the console will be compatible with a group of M.2 NVME SSDs. Xbox Series X / S owners will be limited to a proprietary storage solution from Microsoft, one that was recently revealed to cost a whopping $219.99.

Regardless of what Xbox customers pick up this November, the Series X or S, this is pretty important. Even though it’s shipping with a 1TB SSD, games for the series X will likely have large filesizes, especially larger releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. If players want to upgrade the storage for their Series X, it would bring the total bill for their console to over $700.

While filesizes on the Xbox Series S will be markedly smaller than those on the Xbox Series X, there’s still reason to believe that the digital console’s 512GB SSD will fill up quickly. Purchasing one of these SSDs, and bringing the grand total for the Series S’s storage up to 1.5TB, will cost owners over $500, more than an Xbox Series X.

If Xbox owners don’t want to shell out over $200 for expandable storage, there’s also the option of USB drive storage, although it comes with some caveats. You’ll only be able to play games being stored on a USB drive if they’re not optimized for the Xbox Series X / S. Otherwise, USB drives can serve as storage and nothing else, just a place to keep those massive downloads.

1TB is gonna fill hella fast,if it's anything like an XBOX One X you've only got about 750gb out of a TB to use as soon as you plug it in...what a rip off...

Damn 219$ is a lot. I'm sure one point will go down in price.

Doubt it will stay that price for long, only an idiot would buy it at that price.
