Twitch plays Microsoft Flight Simulator wasn’t a disaster

It was only a matter of time until Twitch plays Microsoft Flight Simulator was a thing.

Game developer and advocate Rami Ismail, formerly of Vlambeer, has set up an experimental version of the popular Twitch plays game with Microsoft Flight Simulator.

If you’re unfamiliar, Twitch plays is a series of livestreams where Twitch chat controls what happens in a game. As we’ve seen before with Dark Souls, Pokemon and others, viewers spam commands in chat, which are then translated to moves/attacks in the game in the order they appear. Whatever the hivemind decides goes in this case, but that practically guarantees some dissenting voices could easily steer things off course.

The madness of watching Twitch chat get itself out of problems it created moments ago can be enjoyable, so you can imagine the potential for glorious disasters this has with a game like Microsoft Flight Simulator. This was likely what got Ismail to host a Twitch plays Microsoft Flight Simulator on his personal Twitch channel over the weekend.

Though commands were limited to channel subscribers, Twitch chat still managed to fly a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner and safely land it, even pulling off a barrel roll at one point. The plane took off from Kosice International Airport in Slovakia, which is where it returned after about an hour of flying.
