How Call Of Duty: Warzone Interacts With Black Ops Cold War

4.1
During the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal, developer Treyarch discussed how Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will be interconnected. By interlinking the battle pass system and store, the two Call of Duty games will share post-launch content and progression across all platforms.

The studio detailed what the interlinking of the battle pass system and store means for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Alongside supporting cross-play and cross-progression, both games feature shared post-launch content through the battle pass and store. This means what you unlock in Black Ops Cold War's battle pass will carry over to Warzone and vice versa. Additionally, because the post-launch content for both games is free, everything from Warzone is transferable to Black Ops Cold War.

"One surprise we're avoiding is the feeling of starting over," said Treyarch's creative specialist Miles Leslie. "It's important to us that you can still use your characters, weapons, progression-related items, which is why investment and progress in Cold War is reflected in Warzone. While these are two very big games, from the beginning they've been built to work together.

Leslie said the player's experience, from a content and progression standpoint, is important to Treyarch. As such, the studio has made cross-progression between the latest Call of Duty titles a priority, saying "much of your previously earned Modern Warfare content--from weapons to cosmetics--[will be] available for use in both Warzone and Modern Warfare," as well as Black Ops Cold War.

"That's multiple studios totally committed to continuing this new tradition of insanely fun, absurdly accessible Warzone action. We can't wait for you to see how Verdansk and all of Call of Duty will evolve in the year ahead."

On the Activision blog, the publisher further detailed how the two games are linked. In addition to previously unlocked Warzone content--blueprints, cosmetics, equipment, operators, weapons, etcetera--being playable in Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare, Activision confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty game won't include a "season pass model." The studio explicitly states that all post-launch content, from maps to modes, will be free for all players on all platforms.

We were able to go hands-on with Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer, with editor Michael Higham calling the game a "reliable" mix of Call of Duty's past with some new elements to liven the series up.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with next-gen versions also dropping once the systems are available.
