Warner Bros. parent suggests its games business is staying put

The parent company of Warner Bros.’ video games division has suggested it will not be sold, as previously reported.

According to several reports this Summer, Mortal Kombat and Batman Arkham publisher Warner Bros. Interactive had been put up for sale.

According to reports from CNBC and The Information, Warner’s parent company AT&T was looking to generate around $4 billion to pay off some of its substantial debt. Electronic Arts was said to be one of the interested parties, alongside Take-Two, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.

However, in an extensive update on plans to restructure the Warner group, it looks like the games division is staying put.

Warner Media CEO Jason Kilar said that following proposed changes to the company, “Warner Bros. Interactive remains part of the Studios and Networks group.”

The news coincides with the announcement of a new title from Rocksteady (Batman Arkham Knight) based on DC’s Suicide Squad. The UK-based studio will reveal more details on the game during DC’s FanDome event on August 22, it said on Friday.

Warner Bros. Interactive also owns NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat), TT Games (Lego), Monolith (Middle-Earth: Shadow or War) and internal studios based in Montreal, Boston, New York and San Francisco.
