Final Fantasy 14 Now Has 20 Million Registered Accounts

3.8
As Final Fantasy 14 surpasses its 20-millionth registered account, Square Enix has released new information on the long-awaited Patch 5.3.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, which turns 7 years old this upcoming August 27, now has over 20 million registered accounts in its database.

This number contains free trials and expired subscriptions as well, so it isn’t immediately clear just how many active FFXIV players exist from this tally alone. Reddit user u/rocketchatb uncovered that Final Fantasy 14 reached 1 million concurrent subscriptions in June of 2019, and given that the game is clearly in such good health over a year later, it’s fair to assume that a decent chunk of registered accounts is still playing each month.

Meanwhile, on July 22, Square Enix put out a press release statement containing further information about the long-awaited upcoming Patch 5.3, called Reflections in Crystal. If you’ve been keeping up with Final Fantasy 14 news, you may remember that Patch 5.3 was delayed slightly, but it is now slated for release on August 11.

Spoiler warning for those who aren’t caught up to speed on the Shadowbringers storyline!

The patch will bring with it several features that fans have waited a long time for, but most exciting (for new players in particular) is the total rehaul of the A Realm Reborn storyline and leveling experience, which is intended to be less verbose for somebody who is just getting into the game.

But if that’s not enough on its own, the wholly revamped free trial will now extend to level 60, and includes the entirety of Heavensward, FFXIV‘s first expansion out of three.

More experienced Final Fantasy 14 players will find plenty of other stuff to engage them in the new Patch 5.3 update, including the last leg of the Shadowbringers storyline as well as the next YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse raid, which is a direct bit of crossover between Final Fantasy 14 and NieR: Automata.

Patch 5.3 will also include a wide gamut of new stuff; from a new dungeon to new beast tribe quests, to phase three of the Ishgard Restoration project, to the inclusion of A Realm Reborn in New Game+.
