Of all the PS5 launch games that are slated to arrive later in 2020, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales might very well be the most-anticipated game of the bunch for many. While there’s still not a lot we’ve seen of Miles Morales on PlayStation’s next-gen hardware just yet, developer Insomniac Games did today reveal some rather juicy information about what prospective players can expect in terms of performance.
Over on the official Insomniac Twitter account, it was detailed that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will boast an optional performance mode that will allow the game to run at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution. This perhaps shouldn’t be much of a surprise given that the PS5 hardware will be much stronger than the PS4 currently is, but it’s still exciting to know that Miles Morales will be able to reach new highs that the previous game could not. For reference, Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 was only able to consistently perform at 30fps with a resolution at or slightly above 1080p, depending on whether or not you played on a base console or the PS4 Pro.

That said, the word “optional” that Insomniac uses in this tweet is a bit intriguing. This essentially confirms that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will offer multiple different performance modes to choose from, which tends to be normal for Sony’s first-party titles. That said, it’s currently unknown what this other mode might offer, though a higher frame rate than even 60fps seems likely. For most, 4K/60fps is the benchmark that many want next-gen platforms to seemingly hit, so I would imagine that a lot of folks might go with this option over whatever else Spider-Man might offer.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s said to launch later this holiday season alongside the PlayStation 5.
