Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Models are Being Discontinued

4.1
With the Xbox Series X on the horizon, Microsoft has opted to stop manufacturing two models of the Xbox One.

In what has already been a busy day for Xbox news, Microsoft confirmed this afternoon that it will soon be ending production of two current Xbox One models.

Coming by way of The Verge, Microsoft revealed that it is planning to halt the manufacturing of both the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The baseline version of the Xbox One S, however, will continue to still be made and sold across the world.

The reason for this halt in production, according to Microsoft, is that it will allow the company to focus more on the next-gen console, the Xbox Series X. “As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” a spokesperson from Microsoft explained to The Verge.

While not outright stated, another reason that likely played a part in Microsoft’s decision here surely relates to how there have been hardware shortages of the Xbox One in recent weeks. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, all gaming hardware ranging from the Xbox to the Switch has been hard to come by. Rather than feeling a need to try and hurriedly recoup those shortages, however, Microsoft seems to have decided to just begin turning the page and will focus on manufacturing more units of the Xbox Series X instead. And can you really blame them?

If you’ve been looking to get your own hands on an Xbox One X or Xbox One S All-Digital Edition in recent weeks, this is surely crummy news. That said, Microsoft seems to be likely to fill the void left behind by these two consoles as it is said to be planing to release two SKUs of the Xbox Series X, one which will be all-digital. More news on this console, which is rumored to be called the Xbox Series S, is reportedly said to be arriving in August.

Daniel This is sad but everything comes to an end sooner or later, The Xbox Series X is going to blow us all away i reckon so there probably won't be many people looking for the Xbox One X or Xbox One S but atleast there will still be a load of them out there just not directly from Microsoft.

Great way to look at it really. I think we all know it's going to blow us away though - look at the specification! Just how games run it etc.

Crazy to think they're discontinuing the One X. Makes me think it flopped.

It makes sense to have all hands on deck for the next gen console, but I think they will discount the remaining Xbox One consoles and try to sell the rest of them. As long as the Xbox One has a long console lifespan like the 360 did.

I dont see why they dont keep the One X but discount it, that way new buyers can get into console gaming with the 60 fps and 4K instead of 30 fps and 1080p.

Unless it is a marketing / financial thing, where someone gets the One S, doesnt like the 30 FPS, sells it and buys the Series X or if the One X is too much to manufacture along side the Series X as they would lose money.

Dunno

I guess it kind of makes sense. I wouldn't see who would want a one x when they can wait a lil and get a better console if you really care about the console's power.

Not to be a hater or anything, I dislike the removal of the 1 yr gold sub, I have switched to pc with a 3rd gen ryzen and a good gpu, mobo combo for now, think I'm switching to pc, loving it so far, I wish the best to those who upgrade to series x,I've been team xbox with the 360 and one, but, I see more opportunity in pc for myself.
