Mojang offered to change Scrolls name, Bethesda refused

4.5
The saga that is the Bethesda vs Mojang battle of Scrolls continues this week as the Minecraft dev’s Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has revealed that he offered to alter the company’s Scrolls trademark to appease Bethesda. The Elder Scrolls developer wants blood over the use of the trademark, just in case you’ve missed the action. All sorted, then?

Not quite; Bethesda refused Persson’s suggestions and instead pursued legal action. As Persson explained on his blog: “We realized we should apply for the trademark “Minecraft” to protect our brand. When doing so, we also sent in an application for “Scrolls”. When Bethesda contacted us, we offered both to change the name to “Scrolls: ” and to give up the trademark.

“They refused on both counts.”

To war, then. Mojang and Bethesda are headed to court, which is kind of a shame seeing as these are some of the most well-loved devs in the industry.

Who notch?

Yeah, he was treating this like it was not a big deal trying to save face. Now that he knows Bethesda plans to fully go through with this... I don't think were gonna see much more arrogance from him.

No...we are. This case won't go through. It's like Apple suing somebody because their tablet is called "something" Pad.... Bethesda is going to waste a lot of money.
