Xbox Boss Showers The Last Of Us Part 2 With Praise

As Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II continues to find success, Xbox boss Phil Spencer took to Twitter to give more praise to the studio. While Microsoft and Sony continue to gear up for the next-gen console wars, that has not stopped Microsoft from acknowledging their rival's accomplishments.

Despite an initial wave of review bombs, Naughty Dog's latest triple A title has continued to put up impressive sales numbers after just over a week of being on the market. The story driven survival RPG focuses on Ellie, now older and seeking revenge after a tragic inciting incident at the beginning of the game, and improves on the gameplay from the original The Last of Us with a refined combat system and level designs that gives players more freedom when approaching a situation. The Last of Us Part II had a rocky start with its story leaking online, and the game's dedicated subreddit has turned against it, but so far that has not stopped its success.

With the news that The Last of Us Part II has already sold over four million copies and become the PS4's fastest-selling exclusive, Naughty Dog vice president and director of The Last of Us Part II Neil Druckmann took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the fans who have supported the game, in-spite of some of the negative press surrounding it. Unsurprisingly, the replies were filled with users going back and forth over their thoughts about why the game was or was not good to them, but one unexpected development was the appearance of the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, appearing in the replies to congratulate Druckmann and his team. Spencer's tweet was brief, simply telling Druckmann, "Congrats to you and the [Naughty Dog] team on the success with a really great game."

Druckmann responded to Spencer with a brief, sweet reply of his own, stating, "Thanks, Phil! Looking forward to what y’all have coming." As opinions continue to be split among players, the team over at Microsoft have taken notice of the game Naughty Dog have put out. Xbox of course have their own exclusives in the works, namely Halo Infinite, which has been in development for quite some time now but still has more than its fair share of hype behind it.

Naturally, the exchange prompted memes and speculation but still, it is interesting to think about how Halo Infinite will stack up to The Last of Us Part II when it drops. The two games are quite different in terms of story and gameplay, but both are major first-party exclusives, and both will be available on the next-gen consoles when they eventually release. So, whether or not the comparison makes sense, the argument will still be had regardless between fans. Although, if The Last of Us Part II is any indication, there is no such thing as bad publicity, and both companies will be more than happy to have the interactions.
