The Last of Us Part II Is Not Planned to Have DLC

While The Last of Us Part II is off to a successful start, director Neil Druckmann says there "are no plans" to release DLC for the game.

With The Last of Us Part II a week out from its release, the game has already kicked off to an incredible start. The long-awaited title has already garnered critical acclaim and reached an impressive milestone as the PS4’s fastest-selling exclusive ever released. Alongside the game’s critical and commercial success, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann addressed a bit more on what to expect from Part II and if we’ll see any additional content for the game in the future.

During a spoilercast with Kinda Funny Games, The Last of Us Part II lead director Neil Druckmann shared a bit more info on whether or not to expect DLC for Part II. When asked about the prospects of a larger story expansion (in the vein of The Last of Us: Left Behind) for the game, Druckmann addressed that currently there are “no plans” to release DLC for Part II.

Over the past several years, Naughty Dog has released standalone titles such as The Last of Us: Left Behind and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy that acted as “story DLC” for The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (respectively). With the release and reception of those two titles (especially Left Behind), many fans had wondered whether Naughty Dog would provide a similar standalone story expansion for Part II. However, Druckmann clarified that, for the moment, it seems that the story told in Part II is complete as is.

However, Druckmann did touch on the prospects of multiplayer for The Last of Us Part II, which Naughty Dog announced last year would not be included with the game at launch due to the scale of its single-player campaign. Though Druckmann didn’t provide any specific details on what to expect, he seemed to hint that the studio is working on some sort of multiplayer experience for The Last of Us fans. It hasn’t been confirmed just yet whether this will be a new iteration of the “Factions” multiplayer mode from the original The Last of Us or something else entirely, but we’ll most likely hear more about it sometime in the future.

The Last of Us Part II is available now exclusively on PS4.

I sure hope this is not true, The story mode is not even that long, I guess I will have to go back do the story again in a few months if they are not dropping any DLC.

DLC is not needed for this game. If they did add DLC, it'd be clear the developers only want $ - so that's good.

Huntsmen After playing it, it makes sense that there would be no DLC. I'm not going to spoil anything for those who haven't played, but everything that needed to be done/showed was in the game.

Agreed. Quality play for those who have not played yet. Well worth the money.

I am pretty sure this is what was said about the first one and they ended up making a DLC. Either way from what I hear from all the spoilers I feel like with what happens there's no point to extend it.
