Amazon Kindle Fire tablet revealed, targeting iPadlo

4.5
Amazon has revealed its Kindle Fire tablet, which is being billed as a smaller, cheaper alternative to the iPad.

Retailing for $199 from November, the "souped-up version" of the Kindle e-book reader will feature a 7-inch display and offer Wi-Fi connectivity, though not 3G access, Bloomberg reports. It doesn't have an embedded camera or a microphone.

It will run Google's Android operating system, but Amazon has "painted over the rough surfaces... with a fresh and easy-to-use interface and tied the device closely to its own large and growing content library of movies, magazines and music", according to the report.

The device will come with a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, the firm's $79-a-year subscription service which includes streaming video and free two-day shipping.
