Sony opted to roll out this coming month’s slate of free PlayStation Plus games a bit differently than it has in the past. Earlier this week, it was unveiled that Call of Duty: WWII would be the first title that would be made available for free to subscribers for June 2020, with the second game being revealed later on. Well, that “later on” time has now arrived and we now know what the full slate for the month will be.
EA’s 2017 release of Star Wars Battlefront II is the second game that is being made available for the month of June. Unlike Call of Duty: WWII, which is available to download right now, Battlefront II won’t be able to be snagged until next week on June 2.
While the root of much controversy when it first launched, Star Wars Battlefront II has continually grown and improved over the years. Developer DICE has added many free updates to Battlefront II over the years which have included new maps, characters, and a litany of other changes. So many additions have come about, in fact, that many of the complaints that some players had near release have now been rectified in one way or another. Not to mention, alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Battlefront II is one of the only new Star Wars games we have received in recent years with a single-player campaign.
DICE’s work on Battlefront II actually just finished up earlier this year in April, when the final update for the multiplayer-focused shooter went live. The version that PS Plus subscribers are getting here is essentially the content-complete iteration of the game, which makes its addition to this PS Plus lineup that much sweeter.
EA and DICE presently haven’t announced what the future plans are for the Battlefront franchise, but with a whole new wave of players on PS4 now seemingly downloading the game, you’d imagine that the community surrounding it should be pretty active for the foreseeable future.
