EA Upcoming Titles Can Be Upgraded to the Next-gen Version for Free

Electronic Arts revealed that players will be able to use a free option to upgrade the company's upcoming titles to the next-gen version.
The latest earnings call of Electronic Arts revealed more information on the company’s plans for the rest of the year, including how they will be launching their cross-gen title in the near future.

In a video conference presented by Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, and Blake Jorgensen, CFO and CCO of the company, it was revealed that EA is planning to provide a free upgrade for its upcoming cross-gen titles which will allow players to buy the current-gen version of the game and get the next-gen version of it.

The option to get the next-gen version of your current-gen title has already been announced by Microsoft as Smart Delivery. Before EA, some other big publishers like Ubisoft and CD Projekt RED have also revealed that they will be supporting the new innovative functionality to save more money for the players. However, Jorgensen didn’t mention a specific brand or console when revealing the free upgrade option.

With the next Battlefield title launching in the fiscal year 2022, it’s yet to be known what game is going to be EA’s big launch for later this year. That said, Andrew Wilson indicated that the development process of the next Battlefield is proceeding “very, very well,” despite the challenging situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is planning to launch its annual EA Sports titles along with an unannounced brand new sports IP. Electronic Arts is also partnering with more indie developers as part of its EA Originals project.

As you may know, Electronic Arts will be holding its annual EA Play conference digitally this year on June 11. It’s expected to hear more about the upcoming projects from EA Sports teams, get some new information on the next title coming from the developer of A Way Out, and hopefully, see a little bit more of the Dragon Age project.

Gossip Does this mean we have to buy it digitally? Or can I buy the disk and the game just automatically updates to the new gen.. hmm.

This is a good question, but honestly who still buys discs? I have been digital for years now.

I would expect this honestly, pay for a game and then a few months later have to but it again? I think not.
