Sony May Cut PS4's Price to Stimulate PS Plus Subscriptions

4.3
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Sony had iterated on multiple occasions that it plans to transition PlayStation 4 owners to its next-gen system as quickly as possible. A new report from Bloomberg suggests that plans may be changing behind-the-scenes, however, due to a high PlayStation 5 price and limited supply.

In fact, the publication claims that the Japanese giant may attempt to temper the impact of a slow PS5 rollout by reducing the price of the PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles. This, it hopes, will lock people into the ecosystem and stimulate lucrative PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscriptions, which have become something of a cash cow for the company.

“Sony’s Chief Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida has said the company will aim to increase recurring revenue rather than one-time hardware purchases,” the publication writes. This all sounds like a marked change from PlayStation’s original strategy – especially when it was talking about converting users at an unprecedented pace just six months ago.

Then again, the world has changed dramatically in a very short span of time, hasn’t it?

Cent I'd buy one for like $150 but anything more I don't see me doing it lol. I'd like to play the final fantasy games and the last of us because I have never tried either one.

But if you know you're going to buy a PS5 just use that extra 150 for that right? Just makes more sense to me.

Gossip Who's going to buy a PS4 now when the PS5 is coming out anyways?

I understand cutting prices but who is going to buy a PS4 right now? Wouldn't the sales be at a low since everyone is waiting for the new console? Even with a price drop that isn't going to make me go get up and get one.

9nty Yes, in a short time span the world has changed in a scary way it's actually so monkas.
I understand why Sony is changing their prices and how much they're going to restock and such.

Doesn't make sense why people would buy ps4 consoles to this day instead of saving up for ps5 maybe?
All I would think of why would people buy the ps4 console would be for modding/backups and game saves apart from that I don't know why Sony would sell more consoles?!

Yeah they're restocking and stuff but it's honestly pointless at this point unless they're thinking people will buy because they are stuck at home with nothing to do./

It doesn't really make sense because who is wanting to buy a PS4 now when the PS5 is coming out?

If they reduce price they will def get more sales as well, hopefully it increases their numbers of ps plus and now subscribers too!
