Four Modern Warfare sequels are rumored to be in the works

Modern Warfare has been having a modern renaissance lately with 2019’s reboot, its big successful battle royale mode, and the recent remaster of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. And if a recent rumor is accurate, Activision may be trying to keep that momentum going. According to this rumor, Activision is allegedly planning four more Modern Warfare sequels.

This rumor comes from leaker and YouTube TheGamingRevolution (again, no relation) on Twitter. He said that these four games are going to be focused on taking down a particular horsemen out of the series’ Four Horsemen and give more story to player characters like Ghost, Sandman, Soap, and more.

The Four Horsemen are four antagonists from the old series that are aiming to retake over the world and bend it to their will. They are Vladimir Makarov, also known as one of the main bad guys in the first Modern Warfare trilogy who detonated the nuke in the above picture from Call of Duty 4; Khaled Al-Asad, the man who executes you in the beginning of the original Modern Warfare; Victor Zakhaev, the man who commits suicide in the 2007 game; and his father Imran Zakhaev, who you shoot the arm off of in the classic “All Ghillied Up” mission.

None of these characters are the focus of the 2019 reboot, but the game does hint at their eventual involvement. Al-Asad is briefly shown at the end of the game, as you can see in the above picture. While this is all a rumor, it is likely that future Modern Warfare would have these key players in some capacity. It just remains to be seen how they’ll make their grand entrances, be it interspersed through the series or full sequels like this rumor suggests. Regardless, it might have to wait, given that 2020’s Call of Duty is rumored to be a Black Ops reboot.

Activated MW 2019 story was great, cant see them going wrong with the other games if true

Agreed! I loved the MW story.

I agree it was pretty fun and I enjoyed playing it through for once. Probably the first one I enjoyed since the ghosts campaign.

I'm really just hoping the MW2MPR is good. If not I'm hoping a call of duty of MW2's standards will come out someday.

I enjoy the reboot of the Modern Warfare title with how classic that name is and the weight it carries in the community, Can not wait too see how they redo the story we know since it seems to setup similar villains.

Gossip Can we just call them something else and not make new games with the same name.

It's not like they have a reason to use a different branding, they'll get far more exposure for it. Just look at the black ops series, games aren't even linked at all yet use the branding.

I wouldn't doubt it. The name itself is so popular within call of duty anyways.

Int Modern Warfare series has always intrigued me and in my opinion has been the best out of all the call of duty's, maybe it's cause they were my first ones.

Agreed I always liked MW over the BO series. Glad to see the huge success but really hoping they make MW2R with MP.
