The creator of Garry's Mod has teased he's working on a sequel to the sandbox playground and it's possible it'll use the Source 2 engine.

If memes have taught us anything, it’s that you can use them for everything. In Garry Newman’s case, he’s jumped on Twitter to use a meme to tease the potential arrival of the next Garry’s Mod game. Although there are no details yet and mostly speculation.

With the arrival of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve’s VR-exclusive game, it also brings a new, updated Source 2 engine. From the footage we’ve seen from the game in action, the new engine is similar to the old one, with much more advanced graphics and even more floppy physics. It looks like the creator of Garry’s Mod could be working on a sequel and potentially making use of the new Source engine.

The tease comes in the form of the meme that features a bloke holding his lover’s hand on a walk, but he’s looking back at another passing person admiring their rear. The meme indicates that Garry Newman is focusing more on creating Garry’s Mod 2 than everything else.

Garry’s Mod, sometimes abbreviated to Gmod, originally launched back in 2004 as a simple mod. It was in 2006 that the game grew into a standalone title that was also published by Valve. It’s a sandbox playground that allows players to spawn anything they want from Valve’s games, including characters, props, and scenery from Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Portal to name a few. Player’s are also able to manipulate anything.



However, modders have also populated the game with a huge library of additional models as well as character models from other IPs. There are also servers for online multiplayer experiences, some allowing friends to build contraptions, some are role-playing servers, and others have fun games to take part in.

The tweet garnered a load of support from fans of the still supported Gmod, so much that Newman expressed his thanks, joking that he hopes fans aren’t disappointed when they find out that Garry’s Mod 2 is to be an iOS match 3 game created in Unity. Well, let’s hope it’s a joke!
