PlayStation Suite SDK due in November

4.7
Sony has confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show that it will begin distributing the PlayStation Suite software development kit (SDK) in November.

The SDK allows developers to code software in C# for release on PlayStation Vita, hardware certified under a licensing programme, as well as other PlayStation Certified devices. At the moment the only systems that fall under that banner are Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, and Sony Tablets S and P.

From the end of October, Sony will release games compatible with PlayStation Certified devices on the PlayStation Store, starting with PSOne games. The SDK will initially be available in nine countries - Japan, USA, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia - and will be rolled out elsewhere over time.

PlayStation Suite was announced in January, shortly after Sony's upcoming PSP successor, PlayStation Vita, was unveiled. At the time, Sony's Kaz Hirai said the hardware-neutral development framework was devised in recognition of the fact that "the environment surrounding portable gaming has undergone a radical transformation since the launch of PSP.

"We envision PlayStation Suite as an initiative that is essential to the world of portable entertainment."
