Call of Duty: Warzone Planning to Add 200-Player Support

3.9
Yesterday, Activision released Call of Duty: Warzone, the highly-anticipated battle royale game. The publisher has teased big plans for the title's future, but it looks like one of those plans has already been revealed: support for 200-player lobbies. The game currently allows lobbies of 150 players, but Activision plans to increase the frenzy with more players joining in on the action. In an interview with USA Today, Infinity Ward Studio Head Patrick Kelly revealed that the developer has already begun testing the increased player count in-house. While a tentative release window was not mentioned, it would seem that the option should be on the way sooner, rather than later!

“We brought a number of twists to battle royale,” Kelly said to USA TODAY. “I do think the world you play in is going to be undeniably unique. For one thing, we are initially going to roll out with 150 players, when you are typically seeing 60 to 100. Actually, I can tell you we are already playing with 200 players. We are going to release that a little bit later.”

Call of Duty: Warzone takes some inspiration from other battle royale games, but there are still a lot of elements that give the game its own unique feel, and increasing the player count will only help contribute to that. In the game, players parachute into a battlefield, and scrounge for cash and loot in order to buy Killstreaks and Loadouts, before taking on the other 149 players. While death takes players out of the match in other battle royale games, Warzone treats things a bit differently. Instead, players are thrown in the Gulag, where they have an opportunity to participate in a 1v1 Gunfight, where the winner gets to head back into battle. The game is currently available as a free download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

It will be interesting to see the effect the increased player count has on Warzone's gameplay. The game already boasts one of the bigger lobbies available in a battle royale game, and the increased size will definitely have an impact on player strategy. One thing is for sure, with so many people battling at once, the game is certain to live up to its title!

Are you a fan of Call of Duty: Warzone? What do you think of the idea of increased lobby sizes?

Although having loads of people in one server is cool, I can see some negatives come from it also.

200 people would make the game last so damn long. I like the nice 15-20 min rounds. I don't wanna be sitting in one game for over a half hour lol.

Not gonna lie, 150 people already seems like a good amount, if not too many people. Especially since so many people drop back into games after winning their 1v1.
I think 200 might be a little too many, unless they make adjustments to the storm and make the first one non existent or much bigger...

ryan2k9 Firstly, 150 players is way too much. The mode feels all over the place. My opinion is it's one of the worst battle royal games and here's a few reasons why:

- limiting the player to 3 players in a squad
- too many unnecessary cut scenes
- unable to dive at the same time as your squad
- Having two options to spawn back into the game (basically isn't a battle royal)
- not giving the option to turn cross play off

And theres many more. Like I said this is just my opinion but I'd definitely be against 200 battle royal

You just described Apex Legends as well bud. The gamemode was meant to be hectic period. IMO if you and your team is not good enough guess what you're going to die anyway. Two chances is to make it more fast paced. The gamemode is also not littered with cut scenes, there's literally only two. Plane jump and gulag 1v1. Doesn't sound like its for you anyways sense you're pointing out minor things.

Define Battle Royale for me bud. LAST MAN STANDING - SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST - Guess what, if your trash, you're going to lose same as any other BR out right now.

Firstly, I've not mentioned anything about gameplay so god knows why you keep referring to if I'm "trash" in regards to that, I've won 3 times so it's not as if I'm complaining about core gameplay.

Also, you say I've just "described apex" I've described pretty much the majority of battle royal games. I've played since it was introduced and this is fundamentally the worst. The game is literally anything but "fast paced" its sluggish at best.

It's not my "definition" of battle royal. Battle royal has always been if you die you die. Having two chances to come back completely takes away the survival part of battle royal games, may as well go play TDM.
In regards to the cut scenes, you've mentioned that I basically just explained apex but Apex doesn't have cutscenes. It may only be 2 but that's two too many. If it was as fast paced as you said, there wouldn't be any cut scenes, theres just simply no point.

Ok chief, listen up because I'm only going to say this once. The reason I bring up gameplay is because in regards to you saying its "sluggish" revolves entirely on how you play bud. What about fortnite im curious, fortnite has revive stations but it's not BR now because you can resawn? And for godsake if you think there are too many cut scenes, you play apex? The only foreseeable way to keep the action in the game and kill a downed player is to assassinate them, which triggers a cut-scene. This just shows you how misinformed you are on BR's to be fair. I'll refer to a comment made to you just after mine. Stick to pubg if you want to complain about a mechanic that's in almost all BR games kiddo.

Another half-arsed response. I didn'nt mention how sluggish it was in my original comment, it was only until you started to mention gameplay. Fortnight and Apex have revives systems but this can only be used once. Being able to spawn more than once just takes the point out of it being a battle royal.

In regards to the cut scenes, these are optional in apex. If you wana finish someone you see the 3 second cut scene, however you can avoid this by simply killing them. In cod, the cut scene isn't unavoidable.

You can call me "kid" as much as you want but you've proven that you can't take somebody's opinion on the internet without getting triggered.

Haven't really got to play yet because my controller is still messed up but just by watching some gameplay seems like 200 player lobbies would be mad crazy..

so Fortnite isn't a Battle Royale and Apex Legends is not a battle Royale either? I don't get your point..

Mario350 they need to make it solo duo and squads, screw the apex legends bullsh*t 3player only mode sometimes i just want to kill sh*t solo, i know you can turn off auto fill but i dont want to fight a squad vs 1, but this game mode from what i played yesterday when it launched its a good idea for br, but single mode is boring when you dont wanna play with stupid randoms and or your friends dont have the disk space for it.

im glad what they did with the game, but still mad they didnt think about us solo players

It'll be added in the future for sure, they're even testing 5 man squads etc.
