Destiny 2 is getting rid of loot boxes

3.6
Bungie will soon remove Bright Engrams almost entirely from Destiny 2.

Bright Engrams are Destiny 2‘s version of loot boxes. They’re mostly purchased with real money, and contain an assortment of cosmetic items.

They’ve been in the game since the Eververse Story was introduced, but Bungie is working on replacing them. In a blog post, game director Luke Smith said Bungie wants players to know exactly what they’re getting when they decide to spend money in Destiny.

“We want players to know what something costs before they buy it. Bright Engrams don’t live up to that principle so we will no longer be selling them on the Eververse Store,” explained Smith.

Bright Engrams are not entirely going away, however, as they will be limited to the free track of the game’s Season Pass (Battle Pass). This change will take place at the launch of Season of the Worthy – the game’s Season 10 – which kicks off next week.

We still don’t know what will replace Bright Engrams in the store, as they’re currently an integral part of the Eververse loop. It’s possible the store will simply expand its bundles section, which could be the more transparent way Bungie is looking for.

This is not the only change Season of the Worthy will be making to Destiny 2. The same season will also reintroduce Trials of Osiris.

I respect this, and the amount of free Bright Engrams you get just from playing the game sort of shows Bungie aren't the EA type.
