Bioshock 4 Will Retain First Person Perspective

4.2
A new job listing posted by BioShock 4 developer Cloud Chamber has confirmed that the game will keep one gameplay feature that it is known for. 2K Games confirmed the development of a new BioShock game back in December 2019, also revealing that Cloud Chamber would be taking over from former developer Irrational Games after it shut down.

In a post on LinkedIn, Cloud Chamber has put out the call for a senior game designer. This job listing provides fans with one important piece of information about what they can expect from BioShock 4 as Cloud Chamber would like the designer to be "responsible for the development of player character core mechanics, controls and first-person camera." The designer should also be "excited to work closely with engineering, animation, modeling, and level design departments" and has worked on two or more successful AAA titles.

It may seem like a small thing that BioShock 4's first-person camera has been confirmed, but it is something that fans have been concerned about since 2K Games announced the new title. Former BioShock game director Ken Levine is working on an immersive sim at Ghost Story Games and it's unclear how many former BioShock developers are making BioShock 4. Fans have seen much stranger things than a game shifting character viewpoints after a series has moved to a new development team.

The gaming community has also shown itself to be sensitive when it comes to the protagonist's viewpoint. Some were incredibly upset when CD Projekt RED confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have a first-person perspective and not a third-person viewpoint, as many had expected.

Keeping BioShock 4 as an FPS will also allow players to feel much closer to its world. Other Cloud Chamber job listings have teased a "rich and dynamic" world for BioShock 4 and great gameplay moments that sit well next to the game's story. These things could be offered with a third-person viewpoint, but fans will likely enjoy it more getting to see them through the protagonist's eyes.

If Cloud Chamber is now hiring for these BioShock 4 development roles, fans will likely be waiting a long time to play. Reports had suggested that BioShock 4 has been in development for years but if Cloud Chamber is taking a slower and more careful approach, this could hold the release date back.

Good. Now they just need to make it more like the Bioshock 1 & 2. Infinite was trash.
