PS5 Reveal Timing Will Be “Comparable to the Past” – Sony

3.8
With the PS5 confirmed to be launching this Holiday, there are many who are wondering just when Sony will reveal the console is full. From its pricing to more details on its specs to its launch lineup to what it will look like, there’s a lot that we still don’t know about the system, and many feel that Sony will reveal more info about it following the roughly the same pattern that they did with the PS4.

Incidentally, recent remarks by Sony’s Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki during the company’s recent earnings call might be pointing to that as well (via GamesRadar). When asked about the PS5’s reveal, Totoki said, “When the time is right, we will disclose the new product.”

Totoki elaborated on that, saying that though he couldn’t say much yet, Sony’s timing for the new console’s reveal would be “comparable to the past”, which one would assume is referring to the PS4’s reveal at the PlayStation Meeting in February 2013.

“It’s very difficult to really discuss this timing-wise,” he said, “but as of today, we will provide the guidance at a time period which is comparable to the past. So we will not change the time schedule.”

Rumours, leaks, and speculation about a PS5 reveal event in February have been circulating for a while now. Given that we’re more than halfway through February now, the window is certainly shortening- unless Sony considers March “comparable to the past” as well.

Recently, a report suggested that Sony was struggling with keeping the PS5’s manufacturing costs low due to limited components in production. The same report also said that after the PS5 has released, Sony will be launching a new PSVR headset as well.
