Ori and the Will of the Wisps Has Officially Gone Gold

Moon Studios’ latest project, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is on schedule to hit its March 11 ship date. Today, the team revealed that the game has officially gone gold, an important milestone for every studio. Considering we’re 40-some days away from launch, I would say this signals that Moon Studio is very confident in the newest Ori.

Going gold basically means that development has hit a point where the studio feels they can press a master disc. From there, every other disc is based on that. Of course, it doesn’t mean development is completely finished, especially in our current era of the day one patch. However, it’s something that every studio must do and getting it early usually correlates with high confidence from the team.

Alongside the announcement tweet, Moon Studio gave us a reminder of what the absolutely beautiful collector’s edition looks like. This premium version of Ori and the Will of the Wisps includes several standout items. Most notably is the gorgeous-looking art book. You’ll get two different music discs and a shiny steelbook case. Now is a great time to go pick that up.

The first Ori game was incredibly well-received and they’ve yet to show a reason why this follow-up won’t build on that success. Will of the Wisps developer Thomas Mahler said that “Will of the Wisps should be to Blind Forest what Super Mario Bros. 3 was to the original Super Mario Bros.” As someone who grew up on those games, that is very exciting to hear.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps will launch on PC and Xbox One on March 11.
