Less destructible environments in battlefield 3? Dice explains

4.5
Destruction has become a huge part of the Battlefield franchise. It was first introduced in Battlefield: Bad Company and has since then, become a staple part of the franchise. In an interview with IGN, Karl-Magnus Troedsson, General Manager at DICE, revealed that destruction was not originally intended to be a main part of the series. “When we threw in destruction, with having more dynamic environments in there, it actually worked out pretty well by itself.” He continued, “the destruction didn’t really rupture the whole Battlefield system. It actually was just a nice-add on…”

Many fans would agree that it was a very welcome addition in Battlefield: Bad Company 1, which was later improved in Bad Company 2. However, it has introduced other un-anticipated problems along with it as well. For instance, ”there were some maps that actually, after a while, if you played very long in the same area, you’d just grind down everything to the bottom, which made it really hard sometimes for, like, the defenders in a rush map,” said Troedsson himself. ”When we see these things, [we think] okay, we have to add some covers that actually are not destructible.”

In recent trailers and interviews, it’s been revealed that there won’t be as many completely destructible buildings like there were in Bad Company 2, however, destruction will still play a large role. Though you won’t be able to drop buildings on enemy’s heads in BF3, you will still be able to kill them with falling debris from destroyed walls or structures. Alan Kertz, senior gameplay designer at DICE, shed some more light on this subject when asked whether the player who caused the debris gets credit for the kill or not. He simply replied, “credit is given where credit is due.”

If you played the multiplayer in the 2010 reboot of Medal of Honor, you will notice that DICE did not include any destruction at all. So far, we’ve seen a few things from MoH carry over into Battlefield 3 and now, perhaps, we will see less destructible environments as well.

Icy-TankJr I don't care about BF3 story mode and Mw3 story mode. But Mw3 MP will of course be better then BF3 Mp.

Haha you suck so much at first person PvP combat you need people to spawn directly in front of you to get a kill!

Lol I guess you need a sniper to snipe people from really really far because you dont have skills gtfo its is opinion

What are you five? It takes more skill to snipe someone in the head from 200 yards away compared to 15 feet in MW3. You suck.

Lol. People don't get all depressed over this. So what if you can't take down entire buildings. You can still blow off all the walls of them or at least most.

And for destroying environment, you can still blow the ground to hell and take down trees and all that other jazz. Don't worry guys there is going to be more destruction in BF3 then in any other battlefield game.

I dare to challenge that notion. Firstly, you don't know that, haven't played either games. Secondly, Battlefield has made far more more games than Call of Duty, and knows much more about FPS multiplayer than Call of Duty will ever know. Thirdly, during the past gaming events, MW3 has won very few awards, while BF3 won over 50 awards at E3 and was nominated for over 80. At Gamescom Battlefield 3 was named Best of Gamescom unanimously.

I'm going to go ahead and give your arguement for you, to save space.

"More people play Call of Duty therefore it is better." That statement is wrong because, the amount of people playing a game doesn't determine it's quality. Simply put, that logic just doesn't work. "Vehicles ruin Battlefield!" Well to be honest, they don't. Every game Battlefield game DICE has produced has contained vehicles, and there has never been a balance issue. But, for whatever reason, you just REALLY don't like motorized vehicles, there an infantry only mode that will be available in Battlefield 3. "That game is too boring" If your saying that, chances are either have never played the game, played the game for a very short time, or were never taught how to play the game. Battlefield is much more fast paced than Call of Duty could ever be. It's all about getting into the fight, and helping your team. Don't be stupid.

That's the main arguments I've seen against Battlefield thus far, if you have other more intelligent responses, feel free to let me know. :)
alot of the things you say are true, but he didnt even say most of the stuff you said he did. and he was not "being stupid" , in fact, he didnt actually say anything against bf3 other than he prefers cod. you may not agree with it, but its his decision to what game he likes more.

this looks like its a bad thing but its really a good thing, because you can still destroy buildings but not all will be destroyed. i hope that you can bring down bigger buildings

quit trolling. why do you have a problem with the guys opinion? the game you play says little to nothing about your skill, only play style. also, spawn trapping is just as easy in bf as in cod, if not easier.
