Sekiro and Total War: Three Kingdoms top Steam’s best-selling of 2019

3.5
Steam has released the charts for 2019, showcasing the top-selling and most con-currently played games in several different categories. Unsurprisingly, the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and PUBG have prominent spots, but there’s a few curve-balls there too.

China-inspired real-time strategy Total War: Three Kingdoms, anime souls-like Code Vein, and From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice top the list of best new games released in 2019, with Remnant: From The Ashes and Devil May Cry 5 also making welcome appearances. Destiny 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which launched in December for PC with Halo: Reach, all feature too, if there was any doubt of just how good for business being on Steam can be.

The charts are decided through gross revenue, and joining best-selling of 2019 we have best-selling overall, most simultaneous players, best-selling VR game, and Top Early Access Graduates. Predictably, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds stands tall in the 100 top-selling of the year, alongside such heavy hitters as Dota 2, The Elder Scrolls: Online, Grand Theft Auto V, and Rainbow Six Siege. Despite only releasing on Steam in October, Destiny 2 has managed to jump right to the top of the list, and Sekiro and Three Kingsoms are, impressively, the only two non-multiplayer-centric entries in the ranking’s Platinum tier.

Beat Saber has the honor of being the first VR-only game to crack the top 100, joining the likes of Fallout VR, Superhot VR, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR in the biggest selling VR titles of 2019. The best-selling and most consecutive players categories have a strong overlap towards the top, but further down there’s a few surprises.

Resident Evil 2 and Football Manager 2020 both drew in a peak of over 50,000 players at once, as did Borderlands 2 and Devil May Cry 5, beating out the likes of Skyrim, The Witcher 3, and Fallout 4.
