Rocket League slashes item shop prices following player complaints

3.7
Rocket League’s new item shop, which is part of a raft of changes brought to the game in Psyonix’s move away from a blind loot box system, rolled out earlier this month. Now instead of loot boxes, players get blueprints that allow them to see the item they’ve won before committing currency to unlock it. But after players complained about the prices in the item shop, Psyonix has cut prices across the board.

As our sister site The Loadout reports, Psyonix addressed the pricing issue in a blog posted December 11 to the official Rocket League site. In it, the developers acknowledge that item shop prices “did not meet community expectations” and thus have been altered to bring them more in line with item values on the trading market.

Here’s the breakdown: rare items now run from 50-100 credits, very rare items are 100-200, imports cost 300-500, and exotics cost from 700-800. That’s before adding attributes like paint and special editions, which now run as follows: Most paint colors run between 50-200 extra credits, burnt sienna costs zero credits, titanium white (a Bob Ross favourite) costs from 100-500, and special editions cost an additional 200-400.

Psyonix says special items will be priced on their own terms and will vary from the published guidelines.

The developer said it will be refunding players who spent credits on the initial high prices, returning the difference between the old and new prices to their Rocket League accounts.

“For example, purchasers of Crimson Fennec will receive 500 Credits back today, as a Crimson Fennec now costs 700 instead of 1200 Credits,” Psyonix writes. “This price adjustment is a one-time only event, and only applies to purchases made between December 4 and December 11.”

Slashing the prices is nice, but what about how there is no way to actually get credits for free? The old passes at least let you open 6 crates for free, but now there is absolutely no way to get credits for free. Complete and total BS on Psyonix's part.

Yes it is only cosmetic but that's was a good portion of the "drive" to play the game. With the crates, you grinded for the keys and hoped you got something good, now you have to use cash and only cash. It's gonna end up doing a lot of harm, and I don't see it going well for Psyonix
