‘Left 4 Dead VR is real,’ Valve News Network

3.9
With the relatively recent reveal of Half-Life: Alyx, fans of Valve games have something new to look forward to for the first time in a long while. Now, Valve News Network’s Tyler McVicker says that he believes Left 4 Dead VR will soon be making its way to the Valve Index, although what exactly Left 4 Dead VR might be is a bit of a mystery.

“Videos are finally back tomorrow,” Tyler McVicker stated in a tweet. “Boneworks is out on Tuesday. Left 4 Dead VR is real. [The Game Awards] is in a few days, with new [Half-Life: Alyx] news. Get your minds ready, it’s about to blow.”

Now, one might wonder on what basis Tyler McVicker is asserting that Left 4 Dead VR is real. You can watch the details explained in this video from Valve News Network which also happens to discuss the possibility of a new game in the Left 4 Dead franchise.

Without going too deep into the weeds, pieces of computer code have recently been integrated into existing Valve properties. Many of these references are in regards to Half-Life: Alyx, but a portion are related to Left 4 Dead VR. Here’s the list according to the notes he posted along with that video:

“male”,
“female”,
“namvet”,
“teengirl”,
“biker”,
“manager”,
“gambler”,
“producer”,
“coach”,
“mechanic”,
“ceda”,
“crawler”,
“undistractable”,
“fallen”,
“riot_control”,
“clown”,
“jimmy”,
“hospital_patient”,
“Bride”

WEAPON_TEXTURE_ICON_CROSSHAIR
WEAPON_TEXTURE_ICON_INACTIVE
WEAPON_TEXTURE_ICON_SMALL
WEAPON_TEXTURE_ICON_ZOOMED_AUTOAIM
WEAPON_TEXTURE_ICON_ZOOMED_CROSSHAIR

Of course, there are an absolute boatload of caveats to throw in here. To start, the addition of these pieces of code do not necessarily indicate that we’re getting a Left 4 Dead VR game. However, Tyler McVicker’s interpretation of the situation makes sense, especially considering that these were added in alongside code for Half-Life: Alyx.

As he said, there’s also the matter of The Game Awards coming up very soon, which is an excellent time to announce yet another new Valve game. Will we see Left 4 Dead VR at The Game Awards? We’ll find out when they air in just a few days on December 12, 2019, at 8:30 PM Eastern.

Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are my all time favorite games. I have the Valve Index and would love to see what a Left 4 Dead game feels like in VR. I would also hope they allow vr and non vr players to play together.
