Nintendo Switch Breaks Weekly Sales Record in U.S.

Selling over a combined 830,000 units during Thanksgiving week, the Nintendo Switch family of consoles had its best sales week ever.

It is no surprise that the Nintendo Switch was the “winner” of Black Friday. As the newest console on the block, and a great lineup of first-party titles now, Nintendo’s latest console is a must-have. What was maybe unexpected was how well it actually sold, as the Switch had its best week of sales ever in the U.S. during the Thanksgiving week.

According to Bussiness Wire, from November 24-30, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite sold a combined total of more than 830,000 units in the U.S. This achievement can be partially attributed to the Nintendo Switch Lite’s recent release, making it the newest version of the console to hit the market. The standard Nintendo Switch also had some deals during Black Friday, including a bundle that included Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for no extra charge. Thanks to this past week, Nintendo Switch sales have now reached 17.5 million units in the Americas.

Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Nick Chavez, discussed a bit of the Nintendo Switch’s success during the holiday week. “Holiday shoppers see the value of Nintendo Switch, which offers a vast library of games for every type of player,” says Chavez. “Whether shopping for the ideal gift or picking one up for yourself, the Nintendo Switch family of systems provides options that fit every play style.”

Nintendo Switch software also achieved some milestones during Thanksgiving week. Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, which released just last month, reached a combined total of more than 3 million units sold in the Americas. Additionally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reached 8.5 million, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reached 8 million, and Super Mario Odyssey reached 6.5 million in lifetime sales.

While the Nintendo Switch may have been the star of Black Friday, video game software such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, FIFA 20, Madden NFL 20, and NBA 2K20 were among the best selling games during the holiday week.

I've decided to pick myself one up for Christmas. They seem like a lot of fun and the portability makes it worth it. Xbox better hurry up and complete their streaming app to compete with this.
