Valve Issues Steam Controller Refunds After Taking Too Many Orders

4.2
The Steam Autumn Sale resulted in Valve taking too many orders for the Steam Controller which has now fully sold out. Refunds have been given.

The Steam Autumn Sale brought the popular Steam Controller down from its usual listing price of $49.99, but there was a catch. These were to be the last controllers to be available due to them being discontinued. Due to Valve not planning on making any more controllers it was obvious that perhaps the controllers would sell out.

And they did sell out. In fact, the products sold out before the orders had been fulfilled. VG247 reported that people had been talking to the forums on Steam to discuss refunds randomly being given to their accounts. As it happened, Valve reached out to explain the refunds saying: “During our recent sale, we mistakenly took more orders for the Steam Controller than we were able to fulfill.”

The email, as shared on Reddit also explains “As we are no longer producing this product, we are unable to send you a Steam Controller and have refunded your purchase.” The email apologies for any confusion and inconvenience.

Additionally, in the link above to Reddit, someone claims that they purchased the Steam Controller with a credit card, but the refund was given back in the form of Steam Wallet funds rather than being put back into the account. Of course, this isn’t known if it’s just an isolated issue or if others are getting the same result.

The Steam Controller was well known for being used in conjunction with the Steam Link device, another product that saw itself being discontinued in 2018. So if you were trying to nab the controller in the sale, there’s a chance you may have your money back.
