Kojima Productions will one day create films as well as games.

Speaking in a new BBC documentary on the making of Death Stranding, video games auteur Hideo Kojima revealed plans to broaden his studio’s horizons by entering into filmmaking.

“In the future, Kojima Productions will also start making films,” Kojima said in the 26-minute documentary. “If a person can do one thing well, then they should be able to do anything well.”

“I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming,” Kojima said. “Movies, dramas, and games will all be streamed, and you’ll enjoy them on your iPad or iPhone or a screen anytime, anywhere. When that happens, games, films, and dramas will have to compete in the same space. I’m very interested in the new format of game that will appear on there, and that’s what I want to take on.”

This isn’t completely surprising. The Metal Gear maker is an avid cinephile – even his Twitter account boasts 70 percent of his body is made of movies.

Death Stranding is out November 8 on PS4, and coming to PC in summer 2020.
