EA Confirms More Remasters and New IP are Coming in 2020

EA has confirmed that more remasters of its games are coming. Could we finally see that highly requested Mass Effect Trilogy remaster?

Yesterday, during EA’s prepared remarks for investors following the company’s release of its quarterly financial results, we learned quite a bit about what we can expect from their lineup next year. In forward-looking statements for the Fiscal Year 2021, which begins on April 1, 2020, EA promised to not only release new IP, but more remasters as well.

When it comes to new IP, EA said “We also have plans for new experiences that we’ve not yet announced for next year – new titles and new IP for multiple platforms. Introducing new games will always be at our core, and we look forward to exciting players with unexpected new titles in FY21.” With next-generation consoles like the PS5 and Xbox’s Project Scarlett on the horizon for Holiday 2020, new IP becomes all the more exciting.

Though this description of new IP is somewhat vague and could also encompass EA Originals titles, later in the prepared remarks Blake Jorgensen stated that EA plans to “add at least one more sports title to our annual slate” and that the publisher has “two new unannounced EA Partners titles coming from third-party developers.” Whenever they decide to pull the curtain back on those titles we will let you know. He also confirmed that Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond won’t release until the next fiscal year, so don’t expect it to come out before April 2020.

While that is pretty interesting, the most exciting thing mentioned during Jorgensen’s prepared remarks was that EA will “deliver some exciting remasters of fan favorites, including the Command and Conquer game we’ve already disclosed.” This confirms that we will finally be seeing more remasters from EA, a publisher who has typically been hesitant to do so in a console generation chock-full of them. Even though I’m looking forward to the Command and Conquer remasters as a strategy game fan, the fact that others are on the way definitely piques my interest a lot more.

Personally, I would love if we could finally get that highly requested Mass Effect Trilogy remaster. It would be a great way to tide fans of that series over until it finally comes out of dormancy, and I really want to play those games on my PS4 or Switch.
