Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Fans Aren't Happy About the Game's Maps

4.2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released last night on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. And, as you would expect, the servers were down for a couple of hours. However, eventually, and most of today, players have been getting in just fine, and the general temperature of the Call of Duty community seems to range from lukewarm to impressed, with the campaign being particularly noteworthy. That said, most gamers who come to the series don't come to it for the campaign, but for the multiplayer. And again, the reception has been a mixed bag.

There's no doubting the gunplay still feels great and there's a lot of features and excellent design choices around the edges. However, there does seem to be two reoccurring complaints: no red dots on the minimap and the game's maps. Obviously, of these two, issues with the maps is the bigger concern as it's much more integral to the experience. And according to many players, a lot of the game's maps are too large, encourage camping, or are simply designed poorly.

Lood People just lack map awareness. These new maps feature a level of verticality that I've only seen on R6S otherwise, and people aren't used to it. Players are coming from the dumbed down maps that COD has been putting out for the last few iterations and they don't know how to deal with it.

Also, the maps are huge. There's a lot to learn before players will be able to absolutely rip maps and know where people will be camping, vantage/choke points and so on.

I agree a little about the verticality point you made. I don't play Siege, but I can somewhat relate to this if I was to compare it to a CS:GO standpoint. Vertical maps open up many more spots to have to check, because generally there are a lot of ledges, windows and etc... to peek out of. But, the only map I have a problem with this on Modern Warfare is the really small one called, "Rammaza" or something like that, and the only part of the map I have a problem with that in is on the B flag location.

I agree that COD players generally are not used to vertical maps and having to look high and low for players, but I still don't feel like these maps have a lot of that. These maps are just generally BAD compared to any other Call of Duty maps we've ever seen. I've always said every year, my most hated map of all time, on any Call of Duty game, was Carnival from Modern Warfare 2, part of one of the DLC packages. These maps this year definitely take the cake though, there isn't one map I enjoy playing on Modern Warfare this year.

All around just not fun.

Do you even have to ask? It's Call of Duty lmao of course the spawns are bad, but the best we can do is learn the tricks behind spawn camping and try to avoid them lol

I wasn't too pleased about the maps myself but after playing and getting used to them I changed my mind.

im glad iw and activision did something different with the series, since all the games before mw was copy and pasted because it uses the same engine, game clearly isnt meant for 12s for sure its fitted for 20s 40s 64s and 100 players
