Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3 war rages on

4.4
EA and Activision have been trading barbs for a while now concerning their respective shooter titles, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which will go head-to-head this fall. Recently, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick doubted Battlefield's presence on consoles, and EA boss John Riccitiello fired back, saying Activision feels "threatened" by Battlefield. During our meeting with Riccitiello at E3, he went even further, telling us that he wants Activision's franchise to "rot from the core," and he thought the pre-announcement of the Elite subscription was a terrible idea.

What does "rot from the core" mean? Essentially, he's saying that Call of Duty has become a mass market phenomenon but that hard core gamers will recognize the quality of Battlefield vs. Call of Duty this holiday and will, he believes, gravitate towards Battlefield instead.

Riccitiello began, "The honest truth is I think Modern Warfare is going to be a really good game. I think that in a weird way it’s starting to feel a little to me like the Disneyland abstraction of a war game – a little bit jump the shark. So it feels a little bit like that to me. And I think there’s a market for that. I think our game is more authentic. It’s definitely going to do a lot of things better. Lighting’s better, physics is better, animations are better, particle effects are better, vehicles are better. I think there’s a lot of things to like about our product and I think it’s going to be a great battle."

"So headline number one, having a clash of the titans in entertainment [is great]. If you’re battling your cholesterol drug versus somebody else’s cholesterol drug, there are only so many people who need cholesterol drugs. The market is getting bigger, but it’s all about cholesterol. So the market divides. Your chips versus my chips. Maybe it gets bigger. But this is great for consumers. When two titans go up against each other, and battle each other for how you’re going to spend your entertainment time and dollars, it doesn’t get better than that. So as a headline, I think this is the best time in the game industry. I love when this happens."

i'm just going to say i like battlefield, it's great, but after a while it gets boring, cod games may not have huge maps or graphics that u wanna jizz over but it's at 60fps & the gameplay is amazing... this is the reason cod will outsell any shooter every year & will be continued to be on psn/xbl activities no.1 spot.

It's only poor people who rage about mw3 vs bf3. That's because they can only afford one. I'm getting both so problem solved.

iJarH3ad stfu guys. We all know that mw3 is gonna beat battlefeild 3 for most selling copies of all time. And of course best game of the year. But I like battlefeild 3 and mw3. I'm just trying to tell the turth.

Gameplay: BF3>MW3
Sales: MW3>BF3
Ear Infection from screaming kids rate: MW3>BF3

Damn, EA is just throwing a low blow by telling Hirshberg to go and try to buy a copy of Tony Hawk or Guitar Hero...... Haha it was funny but a low blow..... BTW why drop a pre order over what someone is saying, both of these games are going to be amazing. I have a little bit more faith in BF3 but im still going to get MW3 because im confident that they will have fixed the problems they had in previous games.....

xDethKlokx I hate seeing this raging on whats better!

BF 3 = Tactical style game play
MW 3 = Fast pace shooter style

There both totally different and are fun in there own ways

Exactly.

rukahS_capuT I don't understand why EA feels the need to disgrace their name by creating this hating atmosphere. If you want to have a better game, focus building it, not destroying another.

If you truly believe you have a better game, then the sales will show it when the game comes out, and you'll have the last laugh. Now when Modern Warfare 3 wins again, you'll look like arrogant dueches.

Way to lose my preorder, EA.

Exactly.

DrPhil321 I think this is funny. And are the people that are dropping preorders because of this f**king stupid? As long as the game's good who gives a f**k?

I dropped it because i don't want to support the marketing campaign they're running. I'm sure others dropped theirs for the same reason. If they stop all the shenanigans and run a legitimate campaign, I'll pre order again.
