Resident Evil Series Hits 91 Million Units Lifetime Sales

4.4
Resident Evil has seen its ups and downs, but in recent years, Capcom have overseen an impressive resurgence for the franchise, with successive games that have brought it back to its beloved survival horror roots. That has obviously resulted in boosted sales (though it bears mentioning that Resident Evil sold remarkably well even when it wasn’t critically well received), and the series has now hit an impressive sales landmark.

In their recent integrated annual report for 2019, Capcom confirmed that the Resident Evil series has now sold 91 million units worldwide to date, up from 90 million earlier in the year. The most recent mainline entry, Resident Evil 2 – which came out in January of this year – had sold 4.5 million at last count. Meanwhile, Resident Evil 5 is still the highest selling game of the franchise, with 11 million units sold as of February.

Meanwhile, there’s still more Resident Evil content coming up. Project Resistance will be bringing its co-op action (and a single player story, surprisingly) in the near future, while rumours for Resident Evil 8 and a remake of Resident Evil 3 have been floating around for a while now.
