Modern Warfare Will Have a Battle Pass Instead of Loot Boxes

4.1
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS4, Xbox One, and PC will not have loot boxes or supply drops at launch or ever, Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed. Rather, the upcoming first-person shooter will utilize a battle pass, which virtually every multiplayer game uses in 2019 including Rocket League, Fortnite, and Apex Legends. What this means is that all functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game. Meanwhile, the new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content they are earning and buying before they splash that money. And of course, there will be multiple battle passes to coincide with the different seasons of the game.

As you would expect, there will be both a free and premium version of the Battle Pass. And everything in these battle passes will be cosmetic only. In other words, anything that impacts gameplay will only be unlockable by playing the game. That's it. Meanwhile, to accompany the Battle Pass, there will be a in-game store, which will also only have cosmetic items.

That said, there will be no Battle Pass when the game launches, because Infinity Ward is simply focused on the day one experience. Further, Infinity Ward wants players to have a chance to work their way through the game and unlock things before worrying about a Battle Pass. However, while it won't be available at launch, it's poised to hit before the end of the year.

"Understandably there are still questions around how the economy will evolve throughout the post-launch, live seasons," writes Activision. "We recognize this will take time to fully demonstrate. Please know we are committed to delivering a fair system guided by the principles we’ve outlined here, and will continue to monitor feedback and player engagement to help us achieve that goal."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC when it launches worldwide on October 25.

?? There's nothing wrong with a battle pass, as long as it's not dumb rewards and weapons like BO4,.

Having to pay extra for camos, attachments, cosmetics, whatever is pretty dumb. Everybody wants the progression that both MW3 and MW2 had back, where you needed headshots for some camos, and grenade launcher kills for other ones. When you buy a $60 game, you shouldn't need to put down $20 more for content that's just locked behind a paygate.

Then don't pay extra my guy its quite simple

People like you are what make this industry thrive. It's not just about not buying it, it is about how developers remove features that were in games over a decade ago and charge for those same features. I'm not sure about you, but a game from 10 years ago having more cosmetics/titles&emblems available for free from launch than a game from the same devs in 2019 is just plain sad and just shows their greediness.

Simply not buying it is just the silent acceptance of such a stupid money-grabbing concept.

What happened to the grind for the Red Tiger skin for my ACR? What happened to the semtex kill emblem you could unlock? What about that moving predator missile emblem? My point is, things like these are going to be locked behind this pass most likely. If I'm wrong, I will of course be glad, but based on their previous track record, I'm not so optimistic.

They will understand their mistakes one day... Hopefully when people actually decide enough is enough. Yeah, it's all good making a video about how shitty their monitization scheme is but then after a few days its like everyone forgets about it until something else comes up again then rinse and repeat. F2P schemes in AAA games should not have happened in the first place, but we DIDN'T DO enough to push back.

sorry for the little rant but stuff like this just gets on my nerves.
