How the new Xbox Dash watches your every move

4.5
Microsoft has released a new video about the upcoming Xbox 360 Dashboard update. There's not a great deal of new information to be had, though this is one of the few public glimpses of the new dash offered by the company.

One worrying note about the video: There's a large emphasis on the revised Dashboard learning about the user. As Xbox Live corporate VP Marc Whitten forebodingly puts it, "It's not about you learning about our technology, it's about our technology learning about you [emphasis added]." In other words, you might want to stop gaming in your underwear.

-Jordan- This doesn't refer to Microsoft physically watching you through your kinect camera since doing so would be highly illegal. It instead refers to them tracking what actions you carry out on their system just like Facebook, Google and thousands of other websites and systems do. Quite simply it's a marketing strategy to help them make the Xbox interface easier to navigate and decide on new features.

If thats the case i'd hope they include an option to not be tracked, like an option in privacy settings, they they renamed to online SAFETY settings LOLZ!

actully microsoft can watch you through the kinect if they need to. Hey your the one who accepted to the terms and policy.

Dude, accepting the terms of use does not allow Micro$oft to break the law, Flame away all you want i'd suggest you read up what an illegal contract is and how they can't be enforced.

This is correct. Think about it like this. Many people (myself in included although I don't have a kinect) will wake up some mornings and play some Xbox before getting dressed. Then remember the millions of minors who have Xbox 360s. If any of these minors were part of the aforementioned group of people then it would be extremely illegal for Microsoft to be recording or even watching through their Kinect. Regardless of if you accept this in any Terms and Conditions, it would still be illegal.

Wow this seriously is going to suck the big one. I am tired of all of the updates and so sick of this kinect bs. I have a strong feeling that this update is going to be strictly based off of kinect and that will blow for people who dont have it like me. I like the old Xbox dashboard the very first one that they had. Every thing was so organized and was so easy to find everything. But now it is very complicated and with this new update everything will be so complicated. And I have a feeling in the next year you will have to have kinect or you wont be able to use Xbox. That is seriously stupid and I am about to transfer over to PS3 permanently if that happens.

funsnipes Microsoft is not looking at you,its kinect tracking you so microsoft are doing nothing, kinect is just doing the same as it does normally, tracking. Its not looking at you undress apart from when doing video calls. As one of the rules is no nudity infront of the kinect camera which is on the code of conduct. So microsoft are not breaking the law. Its the rules of kinect and they are not looking at you. The rules been in place since kinect launched, no nudity! Read the rules

As I said its breaking the law if Microshaft is using it to spy on me playing games in the nude, don't bother quoting the ToS or CoC they not legally binding I know this because I have contacts in Law.. Im not going to reply any further on this, as my statement is fact and will stand. flame or not.
