Modern Warfare loot boxes could be changed over preorder worries

3.5
A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare rumor has popped up that’s rather interesting indeed. According to a leaker who’s been talking a lot about this upcoming shooter lately, Activision and Infinity Ward are reconsidering their position on Modern Warfare loot boxes in light of supposed preorder losses following the announcement of PS4 exclusivity for Survival mode and the way that loot boxes are set up.

“Activision and Infinity Ward apparently recent held a big meeting regarding my recent post about Supply Drops,” YouTuber TheGamingRevolution (no relation) said on Twitter. In this case, he is referring to an earlier tweet where he claimed that Supply Drops will not only include cosmetic items, but would also have weapons in them.

“The gist of it is that they’ve lost a tonne of [preorders] with the recent news of Survival being delayed by a year on PC/XB and the microtransactions news & are thinking about giving the player the options to earn them again,” he continued. “Nothing regarding microtransactions is set in stone, and like I’ve said countless times before, they are a constant work in progress, but my source wanted to let the community know that they really care.”

The possibility that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare loot boxes would have weapons in them is certainly unappealing to some players, nevermind the fact that a portion of the game has been locked away as a PS4 exclusive. According to this leaker, these issues have caused enough preorders to be canceled that Activision and Infinity Ward are concerned enough to have a discussion on the topic.

Loot boxes and exclusivity have always been a contentious issue; the former is especially troublesome lately considering the growing calls for regulation around the world. If these rumors are true, Activision and Infinity Ward may indeed have the sense to correct the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare loot boxes situation before it does too much damage to the brand.

They would get survival for a whole year before anyone? That's messed up, that's not exclusive that's not treating people fairly at that point.

Oh and here's why nothing about microtransactions are set in stone: THEY CHANGE THEM.
They start off cosmetic, then they start doing weapon versions or attachments or something you can do to your gun in the blacksmith, and then a $60 knife this year bc why not and well yeah... that's the cod way. Do people still not realize how this stupid ass company works?

Xbox I just wish we could go back to the old cod days, no micro transactions, bomb ass dlc, no stepping stones helping out trash players, you either got good or got shit on. I will say I enjoyed the beta more than I have the last few cod titles.

That's how they made this game out to be, that the direction of it was going back to the roots of cod but yet they still introduce supply drops.

Ah, the yearly sheeple attitude is not one I like to see. You realize you incentivize them to keep doing this by buying it in spite of the scummy nature of their MTX right?. Must be a Fifa player too.

Motioncorey I'll play it just like I've been playing since Call of Duty 2. If I don't like the microtransactions, I just won't buy them. It's really simple. No one has a gun to my head so I honestly couldn't care less.

As for core gameplay, it's refreshing. I got to MP on every CoD previously, and it ended up getting stale. But this is promising. If it gets stale again, I'll stop playing.

I'm not going to bash the game. I'm not going to bash the developers. I'll just save my breath and stop playing.

If you want change, not giving it attention works better than complaining. They can't earn money if you don't play.

You have the right sentiment but are taking the wrong actions. MTX are what has ruined CoD, even the most dense people could figure that much out. If there wasn't an outcry there wouldn't be any change. No, nobody is holding a gun to your head, but why is stuff locked behind paywalls. Did you not play MW2 where there weren't any mtx? A lot of people loved that game, and mtx has largely killed the series over time. Yeah it still sells but every year people set themselves up for disappointment.

You telling people to act indifferent to what is happening is like tell the U.S. in WWII to not react to Germany committing atrocities. If something is wrong and the industry can't fix itself, the consumers have to rise up and do it themselves. Being indifferent is akin to allowing their scummy practices to continue.

To be honest, that whole "Don't buy it" attitude NEVER WORKS. Outcry has to happen for change

I like how they still haven't confirmed if the rumor of gun in loot boxes is real or fake yet. Loot boxes for skins is a no brainer it should be expected.

They will cater to the players until about January and it will be BLOPS 4 all over again

I've never been a fan of loot boxes. Bring back MW2 and MW3 ways of earning items.
