Xbox Game Streaming Preview via xCloud to Start this October

4
Project xCloud will be available to try out in preview, with an Xbox Game Streaming preview going live this October.

During today’s Inside Xbox presentation, Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb pressed Gaming Cloud Corporate Vice President Kareem Choudhry for new information on Project xCloud. Microsoft’s streaming technology for gaming has long been touted by the Xbox people as the platform’s next big step, and the public will soon be able to experience Xbox Game Streaming first hand. A preview program for xCloud will begin in October.

Registration for the preview program is now open on their website, but there are some important requirements to keep in mind of. The program is only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. Participants must be using an Android phone or tablet running Android 6.0 or higher, have a Microsoft account, a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One controller (see: not the original One controller), and of course, wi-fi or mobile wireless networks in their area.

While you don’t need a mount for your phone, it is highly recommended by the Xbox folks. Playable games during the preview program are Halo 5: Guardians, the newly-released Gears 5, Killer Instinct, and the online-only Sea of Thieves. Participants will access content through the Microsoft Game Streaming app on their Android device, and will not have to own or purchase the aforementioned titles.

There isn’t a specific date as of yet, nor is there information on how many people will be allowed into the preview program or how long it will last.
