Notch, the creator of Minecraft, announced a challenge to Bethesda this morning to settle the dispute over the name Scrolls once and for all. "Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let's do that instead!" he says. And he's referring to a very specific trial by battle in this case. Forget the lawyers and the paperwork, Notch has challenged Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. The rules are simple: "Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins."
This comes down to a single decision: "If we win, you drop the lawsuit. If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you're fine with."
Just how good is Notch's team? Only time will tell, but this alternative is strangely appropriate for this industry. As an olive branch Notch adds, "Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish."

Bethesda had the name scrolls for a very long time so I don't get why they need to give it up while Notch thinks he also owns the rights to the name scrolls. I guess it's what everyone does today. claims they own the rights to something they never did while the other person had the rights for many years and so the other the person who is faking about it challenges them to a battle. What a dick move to make to the world where everybody is stupid enough to not actually know what's going on and just picks the winning team. If this still goes on and goes into a quake 3 tournament well then I pick Bethesda because they had it for the longest time, longer than I actually knew.
