Nintendo to Reportedly Release More Switch Models

With the Nintendo Switch Lite on the horizon, Nintendo reportedly plans on extending the console's lifecycle with more revisions.

With Nintendo releasing the Nintendo Switch Lite this September, it’s no surprise they want to keep the Switch train going. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo plans “to make the platform’s lifecycle long.”

While the Switch Lite will be the only new piece of hardware Nintendo releases this year, Sharp VP Katsuaki Nomura has seemingly confirmed new display technology that’ll appear in a future Nintendo Switch hardware. Sharp’s IGZO displays, which are found on their 8K TVs and Aquos smartphones, are rumored to be added to one of the newer Switch models going forward. If a higher-end Switch model is on the horizon, its screen is bound to feature more pixels than the current Switch models.

For the Switch Lite, it features a 5.5-inch screen at a 720p resolution. Additionally, it won’t feature detachable Joy-Cons and HD Rumble won’t be supported. Recently, Nintendo released an updated version of the original Switch that features a longer battery life of 4.5 to 9 hours. For comparison, the original Switch lasted between 2.5-6.5 hours and the Switch Lite lasts between 3-7 hours.

With Nintendo selling over 36 million Switch units worldwide, a newer, more high-end model is bound to come out sooner or later. As more games come out such as Pokemon Sword and Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo will just keep continuing to sell more consoles in the future. Additionally, the Switch Lite is bound to sell well during the holidays and beyond.

The Nintendo Switch Lite launches on September 20, the same day as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

I'm really hoping to get the original switch sometime soon, but more models like cheaper, and more expensive pro models sound really cool! I'm sure there will be a new base model out eventually aswell, something like the switch 2 lol

Nice to see them actually creating new and improved switches. Because the one I have, needs to be tweaked a little bit haha
