According to some rumors, Call of Duty 2020 will take place during the entirety of the Cold War and feature both Vietnam and Korean Wars.

Back in May, it was reported that in an unprecedented move, Treyarch had taken over development of next year’s Call of Duty title from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software and that it would become Black Ops 5. Now, some new information about the title has reportedly been leaked and it seems pretty much right in line with what was previously revealed.

Like the Modern Warfare battle royale rumor from earlier today, this leak comes from YouTuber LongSensation, who says that not only is Call of Duty: Black Ops V a title that’s being passed around the studio, but it’s also being simply referred to as Call of Duty: Black Ops, which seems to imply a reboot of the series. Personally, I don’t know how I feel about this. While Modern Warfare did something similar to this, at least there was SOME variety between 2007’s and 2019’s titles with the lack of numbers between the two. Here it’s just a straight copy-and-paste of names.

In addition, LongSensation also said that the game will take place across 40+ years and will feature both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, with the Cold War being the obvious underlying theme, and that the studio is aiming for the game to be more gritty than this year’s Modern Warfare.

Of course, we don’t know anything official and probably won’t until next year. According to the original leak back in May, Sledgehammer Games and Raven were working on the game for quite some time before being taken off the project and having most of the development assets (and subsequent pressure) being pushed on to Treyarch so they can try and get the title out by next year’s release window.

Call of Duty 2020 is set to be released on both current-gen and next-gen consoles sometime next year.
