Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot Says Porting to Stadia Doesn’t Cost Much

Ubisoft's CEO discusses how porting games to Google Stadia will be fairly cheap

During a recent earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on porting games to Google Stadia and how cheap it will be in the beginning.

“The extra cost to port, to make sure the games work well on Stadia is not that high,” said Guillemot. “It’s part now of our pipelines and we have a good relationship with Stadia to make sure it’s profitable for us. Now we are not speaking about 2.0 types of games that will need more work and this we will see more in the future action.”

Also on their earnings call, Ubisoft said their sales were down 9.2 percent year-on-year, making $408.3 million. Things looked up for Ubisoft though thanks to The Division 2 which was their best selling game for the first half of 2019. With upcoming releases such as Just Dance 2020, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Gods and Monsters, and Watch Dogs: Legion releasing in the next couple months, Ubisoft is bound to have a few more hits on their hands.

For Google Stadia, a Founder’s Pack will be available for $129 which includes a Chromecast Ultra, a limited edition controller, and a three-month Stadia Pro membership. Six of Ubisoft’s games will be launch titles for the platform, which includes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and The Division 2.
