Cyberpunk 2077 progression explained by level designer

The upcoming RPG from The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077, is among the most anticipated titles in 2020. As its release draws closer, more information about its gameplay is revealed, and the latest tidbit is related to the game’s character progression system.

In a very brief video posted on Twitter, CD Projekt Red Senior Level Designer Miles Tost gave a bit more insight on how your character will increase their stats throughout the game. Seemingly similar to the progression system from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, as you use your weapons in Night City, your proficiency with them will increase. As Tost stated in the video, accuracy and reloading speed are just a couple of stats that will increase.

Additionally, your progress will also be reflected in your character’s animations. “So, your reloading will become smoother, your weapon handling will look cooler, and you will have a real degree of feeling like you’re progressing through the game,” Tost explains. Whether these animations are just purely cosmetic or actually affect the performance of your character are unknown, but it saying a certain animation will make things “smoother” seems to imply there is some degree of utility from the animations.

As revealed on the Xbox E3 2019 press conference, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020. A few different editions of the game were also announced, with the pricey Collector’s Edition coming with a slew of physical goodies including a statue and a custom box.

On that same stage, it was also revealed that Keanu Reeves, most famous for his roles in John Wick, The Matrix, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, will play a character in the game. One particular fan found the announcement of Reeve’s inclusion to be “breathtaking,” which led the developer to offer the fan a Collector’s Edition of Cyberpunk 2077. Instead, the fan suggested donating a Go-Kart to a children’s hospital.
