Tim Sweeney -it’s Valve’s fault backers won’t get Shenmue 3 Steam keys

Steam is the de facto standard for PC game distribution these days, and most crowdfunded projects use Valve’s service to distribute game keys. The latest entry in the Shenmue series is a notable exception. Shenmue 3 will launch exclusively on the Epic Games store, and there are no apparent plans to distribute backer keys via Steam.

According to Epic boss Tim Sweeney, that’s the result of Steam policy. “As far as we and our partners can determine,” Sweeney tweets (via PCGamingWiki), “Valve policy prohibits providing Steam keys for games that aren’t going to be available at launch on Steam. This would make it impossible to deliver Steam keys for a game releasing exclusively on Epic at launch.”

In other words, Sweeney’s saying that Valve isn’t willing to distribute keys for games that are otherwise only available on other platforms. He adds that “Epic would be happy to fund partners paying 30% for Steam keys for backers if Valve were willing to provide Steam keys for a game that’s not actively in release on Steam.”

Naturally, this also wouldn’t be an issue if Epic hadn’t partnered with Shenmue 3 publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Net for exclusivity. To that, Sweeney says “Epic’s not going to refuse funding worthy exclusivity partners just because a Steam policy change traps crowdfunded projects into either launching on Steam for 30% or offering backers refunds.”

Tim is getting so delusional now that it's not even funny anymore. Like this guy is as hypocritical as it gets and always has some sort of excuse as to why something is everyone else's fault and how he is somehow the saviour of PC gaming, when this guy single handily has brought the increase in piracy back to PC gaming. Sure there were always people who pirated, but the speeds that these games have been pirated have been unreal. Metro Exodus cracked and their anti-pirate software cracked in under 5 days so any other game using that anti-piracy method is now completely screwed. Day Z, cracked day of release, The Sinking City was cracked day of release AND the people who cracked it and modders released a more stable patch since the devs had a broken version that was causing issues on launch. Borderlands 3 is going to be cracked in under 2 days with how much pull is at it. Tim legit has brought piracy back as a dedicated means for getting games, when piracy was not as prevalent as it is now.

I think it's gotten to the point that if Tim just dropped dead, not a single person outside his family and maybe Randy Pitchford would miss him. The dude makes himself look like an ass every time he tweets something, contradicts himself constantly and his delusional self inflated ego has gotten to the point that it's not even a joke anymore.
