Destiny 2 is becoming exclusive to an “epic partner” on PC – Steam

3.4
Destiny 2 is coming to Steam. You’ll be able to migrate your entire account, free of charge, with all of your characters, all their loot, all the expansions and DLC you own – all of it. The news was confirmed moments ago in a stream by developer Bungie, as were most of the leaked and datamined details on Destiny 2: Shadowkeep.

In fact, Steam will be the only place you can purchase Shadowkeep, so if you want to stay current on Destiny content you’ll have to move your account over. You’ll have to buy into the new expansion, but you’ll no longer have to own previous content in order to play the current stuff, and the Shadowkeep annual pass will be available piecemeal.

Pre-orders for Shadowkeep are already live on Steam for $34.99 / £29.99 / €34.99. Curiously, the store page mentions that you’ll get Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind for free as part of a pre-order, but all that content will be going free-to-play on September 17.

With Destiny developer Bungie’s split from Activision, Destiny 2 is no longer welcome on Battle.net. As project director Mark Noseworthy acknowledged in Bungie’s stream, this means it needs “a new home” on PC. Game director Luke Smith observed: “some would say we need an… epic partner.”

Support for this type of migration makes sense, especially since Bungie confirmed that Destiny 2 will have cross-save features when the new expansion launches on September 17.
