The Elder Scrolls 6 is designed to be played for a decade or more

4.1
Skyrim? A flash in the pan. The Elder Scrolls 6 is a game designed “for people to play for a decade at least,” Todd Howard says.

In fact it’s the long, scaled tail of Skyrim that’s inspired Bethesda’s approach to its sequel.

“People are still playing Skyrim, it’s still one of the best-selling games,” Howard told IGN. “I know people joke about it online, but it’s one of the best-selling games on Switch. Anything we put it out on, it becomes a hit game. And they love it, it’s almost infinitely playable, all of the mods and everything like that.”

Skyrim has been out for eight years, and Bethesda Game Studios has released two huge RPGs in the Fallout universe since – but appetite for sweetrolls, and The Elder Scrolls in general, is insatiable.

“It lets us know going into Elder Scrolls 6 that this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least,” Howard said. “At least.”

We’ll have to stick with Skyrim for a long while yet. Bethesda Game Studios’ current project is sci-fi RPG Starfield, because Howard and co. believe “this is the time” for it.

ZTG I really doubt it will be up to standards when they're using a engine that's been outdated for at least a decade.

Really? The game looks very good in my eyes!

I'm excited for the game but I'm not too sure on the whole decade thing.

How do you know this? Seems like a silly little assumption.

A decade old engine can only do so much, in today's standards it's nothing. Fallout 76 has abysmal graphics to today's standards and that game was half assed, the engine can only do so much. They would benefit from having a newer engine because the capabilities of The Creation Engine are nothing to today's standards.

Agreed they should really just use someone else's engine like Unreal Engine 4 or something, this is the only gripe i have with them.

Unreal Engine 4 wouldn't be a bad choice but it's not the greatest for these sort of games I would presume. Something like REDEngine (Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 etc) would be a great choice and much more others.

I'd love to see an announcement of some kind this weekend for ES6 but knowing Bethesda, it'll all be about Starfield with maybe a brief trailer we've all seen already.
