Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Won’t Include a Season Pass DLC Maps Free

4.2
Call of Duty is finally spurning the season pass model with Modern Warfare in addition to introducing crossplay functionality.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was just announced officially mere moments ago and already, some major details about this year’s installment in the series have started to come about.

This time around, it seems that Activision will be shaking things up quite drastically compared to previous Call of Duty games. In a statement from Charlie Intel, it was confirmed by Infinity Ward’s Creative Director Patrick Kelly that Modern Warfare will support both crossplay and will not include a season pass. Both of these changes for Call of Duty are pretty monumental for the franchise.

Kelly’s full statement about the change this year said the following:

“Every design decision has been made with our players in mind. With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support. Second, we’re eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there’s much more to come.”

In recent years, other publishers have started to shy away from the season pass model with their multiplayer games in pursuit of keeping the entire community together. It seems that Activision has finally decided that this is the best course of action with Call of Duty in 2019 as well and has decided to go down that same route. As for the crossplay feature, this is something that many fans have been asking about for quite some time. To see it finally being implemented is definitely a positive.

There’s still a whole lot more we’ll likely learn about Modern Warfare as the day goes on, so stay tuned. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25.

Rareparrot This will shut all the fake cod fans up

WTF are you talking about? So a couple free maps make up for all the shady shit they did before.. legit logic you got there bud. Cod doesn't have fake fans. It has idiot fans and delusional fanboys. Being a fake fan of cod is idiotic. Because there is nothing edgy about being a cod fan.

This game is going to be out this world, free maps is a great idea.

Free maps might not be a bad idea, this might be the game of the year.

Maze No season pass = more microtransactions in cod than we have ever seen before

Interesting take, I'd be surprised if that's the road they go however.

I am 50/50 on this idea but if there are micro transactions I see them doing only cosmetics like camos and characters

50/50? Come on, it's inevitable. Call of Duty is Activision's major cash cow, and it's become much more important with Bungie's departure from Activision. I will personally stick a toothpick under my big toe's nail and jam it in the ground if the microtransactions are not manipulative, excessive, or generally abysmal in nature such as they have been in previous entries to the series.

Hopefully this game has potential to be the game that revives the call of duty name. (This better have leaderboards and a combat record at launch.)
