Battlefield 3 outpacing Black Ops pre-orders

4.5
If those awesome Battlefield 3 trailers haven’t put fear into the hearts of Activision execs, the latest pre-order figures should. Battlefield 3 is outpacing the pre-order volume for Call of Duty – Black Ops. This should be quite a concern for Activision since it is locked in a cheek by jowl struggle for FPS dominance with the other 800 pound gorilla of the video game industry – EA.

According to a Cowen and Company analyst, the firm has upped their estimates for Battlefield 3 sales from 8 million copies to the 11 million mark. This really should not come as a surprise. Between the huge marketing push EA is pouring into Battlefield 3 and the massive word of mouth buzz, and fan boy love Battlefield 3 is getting from the internet, it appears momentum is on its side. And why shouldn’t it be? If you’ve seen the latest video and gameplay releases for this title, you’d know why. While Battlefield 3′s pre-order numbers are pointing to a spectacular launch, most observers still agree that it won’t outsell Black Ops. Black Ops is entirely in a class of its own.

triksta2k11 For fvck sake people. Does it really matter which game is the best? No! It's simply a matter of which game you enjoy the most.

Oh and to all the BF fanboys ripping on Call of Duty for using the same engine since CoD 4, they used it and are still using it because it is a great engine. It is a nice and smooth engine which has made Call of Duty the best FPS since 2004. Dice needed to change the BF engine because it was all over the place and looked like it was rushed.

You're right, it is a good engine, and CoD 4 was the best fps at the time (and is arguably still the best CoD game). But using the same engine without making improvements, in my mind, is still a failure. In fact, they made it worse. MW2 lacked weapon physics, dynamic lighting, bloom effects, among other things. Although it was still a reasonably good game, it failed to bring the same level of innovation (think "wow" factor) as its predecessor(CoD 4) (ignore the mess that was WaW, except zombies). Treyarch continued to sh** on the CoD franchise with their recent title Call of Duty: Black Ops, by milking the classic formula, lackluster visuals, and multiplayer imbalance, and porting failures (such as referencing xbl party chat on ps3, and the complete unplayability on pc). Keep in mind that these games all used the same engine (now including MW3). When I looked at the gameplay footage, I was bored, and moreover, disappointed by what I saw. It wasn't necessarily bad, just something we have seen many times before. I will reiterate that I believe that the CoD 4 Engine is a good one, and it has potential (with modification ofcourse) to be even greater than it was. No doubt that MW3 will please new fans of the series, and at the very least pull back some current ones. But how I see I see it, MW3 won't be a bad game, just an average one. I'm not going to rave about the Frostbite Engine, it had it's problems. I can't tell you BF3 will be good. But I do believe that, for now BF3 will probably be the one I pick up on release, not the one I wait for my friends to get bored with and borrow...

I am going to buy battlefield 3 but I doubt it will outsell MW3

Pre orders and sales don't mean SHlT! Do you know how many great games in that past didn't sell good but then became absolute hits? Same goes for high sale games breaking sale records and not living up to expectation so people return it.

Sales mean nothing.

TRgA_Please It Doesn't Matter About Battlefield 3 Beating Black Ops, It's All About How MW3 IS Going To Blow Battlefield 3 Out Of The Water

Not really, bf2 was actually the most played game ever and it came out in 2005, it still has more people playing then mw2,black ops, bfbc2. The cod series is just repeating what the previous one had just with a new skin on it. Bf3 graph are amazing and will all ways surpass and cod game... The online for bf3 look much better then mw3 will look, but we never know, mw3 might be just as good. But wont ever blow bf3 out of the water.

One, MW3 nearly has twice as many pre-orders as BF3, so sales-wise, it is indeed blowing it out of the water. I also like how you judge MW3's multiplayer without ever seeing it.

"MW3 nearly has twice as many pre-orders as BF3, so sales-wise".

You may want to rephrase that look again.

People have to understand that Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are both better than Black Ops... if you are still playing Black Ops when both of these games come out i feel sorry for you and same goes to people who are playing Bad Company 2 and don't get me started with Medal of Honor cause that game sucks
