EA shutting down more game servers

4.8
EA recently announced it's plans to shut down yet more game servers. Included are some Battlefield games, and annual sports titles including the not so distant Madden 10, and NHL 10.
“We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage.”

Such a move is obviously done in attempt to cut costs and make EA more profitable, but one has to wonder where this leaves many of today's games in 2-3 years. The current trend in gaming is A: a multiplayer focus, and B: annual sequels, so it is a hard pill to swallow knowing that your 60$ game could have online functionality cut out in a few short years because "99% of customers" want to play the next generic shooter "Call of Honor: Modern Battlefield 7."

Such a trend makes me happy to know that games like Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, and Fallout are very much single player focused.

killermanjaro65 LMFAO!!!! They jack Call of Duty's name! Call of HONOR: MODERN battlefield 7? Really EA? You really are desperate! I think Infinity Ward/Activision should sue for stealing a name from them... and trust me, they can.

You do realize that EA did not say that and it was a journalist that wrote the article that did, right?
And as the previous person who quoted you said; kill yourself now before you poison the gene pole with your idiocy :)

Did anyone else notice the parts where they said they were shutting down servers, but people don't want to buy a 60$ game just to have the servers shut down.

Lmfao, that Statement Fails.

i don't think this is right of them to do at all. it dost take that much more work to run at least 2 servers for a game, instead of cutting the entire program, why not leave up a couple servers. and EA has turned video gaming into a monopoly. why should in have to make an ea account to play any ea game online? i shouldnt have to sign in on EA nation to play skate 2. and for that, im never buying another EA game.

online servers are expensive to run. and when all the idiots are playing stupid ass Cod, there's probably less than a thousand people playing Sports games. Besides, If you have one of those games, you have them all.
